Does My Boxster Have the Wind Deflector Slot?

Before you buy a wind deflector for a Porsche Boxster 718, 981 or 982, it’s worth a 30-second check that your car has the factory wind deflector slot. Almost every car does, but a very few left the factory without it. Here’s how to tell, and what to do if yours is one of them.

How to check

Put the roof down and look at the inside edge of each roll-over hoop behind the seats. If your car already has a wind deflector (the factory mesh or one of ours), it has the slot.

With the deflector removed, you’ll see a slot running down the inside of the hoop (green arrow) and a release button near the top (blue arrow). The wind deflector slides down into the slot, and the buttons clip over its top edge to hold it in place. To take a deflector out, press both buttons into the roll-bar and lift it straight out.

No slot?

If the inside edge of each hoop is smooth, like the one above, your Boxster is one of the very few built without the slot.

Can the slot be retrofitted?

Yes. Porsche may tell you the option can’t be retrofitted, but that simply isn’t true. The slot is formed by a pair of brackets that fit under the roll-bar covers:

Once the brackets are fitted, your car will take any factory-style wind deflector, including all of ours. Get in touch if you’d like help working out what you need.
